What is a sworn translation?

A sworn translation in Spain is done by an official translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the list of appointed sworn translators can be check out at https://www.exteriores.gob.es/es/ServiciosAlCiudadano/Paginas/Traductores-Interpretes-Jurados.aspx where you can your province and kind of service you are looking for which is actually very useful.

The translation, which must always be accompanied by a photocopy of the original document translated, comes with a certificate at the end with the translator's details and signature that certifies that the translation is faithful to the original. Said this and since Covid pandemic, Spanish sworn translators strongly demanded that they were able to sign and deliver sworn translations digitally. So do not worry about it, digitally-signed official translations are feasable and legally valid.

Which documents require a sworn translation?

Normally, a sworn translation is required for documents that must be submitted by government authorities, official organisations or for certain types of academic and civil procedures. In each case, the organisation to which you must submit the translation will tell you whether it needs to be a standard or sworn one. Should a document have to bear the Hague Apostille, this procedure must have been carried out before submitting it for translation. I can do it for you too. I am also aware that many countries issue their official documents in local language and also English. Find out if you can have the bilingual version of the documents so that the job would not be as expensive as you thought it would be. 

Can sworn translations be done in every language?

Sworn translators appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs are only authorised to issue sworn translations whose source or target language is Spanish. When you arrange to have a sworn translation done, remember that you should always tell us in which country it is to be submitted, as some countries have specific requirements for this type of translation so it is worthwhile knowing this before beginning the process. Do you want to live and work in Spain?

The Digital Nomad Visa is the Visa for any foreigner planning to live in Spain as a resident, working remotely for a Company or an employer (or self-employed) located outside of the Spanish national territory, and using exclusively computer telematics and telecommunication media and systems.
